Faith and Environmental Balance: 'Immergence is not wrong, material selection is important'; Need to return to clay and metals in the era of plastic and resin
We have a tradition here that when Navratri comes, we share, install the idol of Ganesh Ji on Ganesh Chaturthi, and whenever any idol in our temple gets damaged, we immerse it in water, that is, we perform its immersion.
This tradition was absolutely fine in the olden days, because the idols that were made at that time were made of copper, brass, and clay, and no chemicals were used in them. Copper and brass are anyway considered beneficial for our health, so there was no particular harm from going into water. Even if there was no benefit, there was no harm.
